The following hosts come with standard features like IMAP email, AWstats, PHP5, MySQL 4.1, and the ability to run common software packages like Drupal, WordPress and Joomla.
- Site5 - Great cheap hosting $5/month and up. Probably among the best cheap hosting company out there.
- Bluehost - Mediocre cheap Web hosting. The servers cut off when running Drupal and you get hit with even moderate traffic levels.
- Dreamhost - OK cheap hosting -- only major selling point is the Jabber server. If you try to run dynamic sites on Dreamhost you might find that it is too slow.

- Rackspace - Starting at $383 per month.

These Web hosting companies should be avoided:
GoDaddy.com
Avoid GoDaddy.com hosting for the following reasons:
- Temporary banning of IP address if you make "too many FTP connections" (this has never happened to me on Site5.com, Dreamhost.com, Bluehost.com or other cheap hosting packages except 1and1.com).
- Tech support has not been knowledgeable.
- Even recently they were using MySQL 4.0 which is an outdated version.
- Drupal runs very slowly on their servers.
- GoDaddy.com does not include stats -- you have to pay extra for a proprietary Web stats package called Traffic Facts.
- No IMAP email.
- No shell access.
1and1.com
Avoid 1and1.com hosting for the following reasons:
- Temporary banning of IP address if you make "too many FTP connections" (this has never happened to me on Site5.com, Dreamhost.com, Bluehost.com or other cheap hosting packages except GoDaddy).
- Slow servers when running CMSs like Drupal.
- Terrible proprietary stats program.
